The art and science of water
Objectives

  • To evaluate and compare the physicochemical properties of selected bottled waters from Romania and international markets. Students aimed to determine key parameters such as pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), conductivity, mineral composition, nitrates, and other relevant indicators in order to assess quality, purity, and potential health benefits.
  • To identify differences between brands and types of bottled water, including still, sparkling, and mineral-rich waters. By comparing products such as Borsec and Evian, students were able to understand how geological origin and mineralization influence water characteristics.
  • To explore the role of a water sommelier. Students aimed to develop basic sensory evaluation skills, including taste recognition, texture assessment, and aftertaste analysis and also how water can be paired with different foods to enhance flavor and digestion.
  • To raise awareness about the importance of choosing appropriate water for hydration and health, depending on individual needs.
