The Istanbul University – Devlet Elmira

Poza

In this project we had the chance to visit the Istanbul University.

We got there by foot, so we got to visit and see the beautiful buildings, observing in the same time people’s activity.

After we entered the building, a gigant dog, who’s name we learned from the nice guard at the enterance, greeted us.

It did not take long before we got to meet our guide and professor, Mrs Yaprak. She took us to the presentation room. This class room had its walls covered in various maps of the seas surrounding Turkey, which we had time to observe before the presentation started.

The presentation was very interesting and full of new information. For exemple, I lerned a lot of new things like: how are the samples from the bad of the sea extracted or when the population of jellyfish grows and comes near the shore.

In the mean time, the students from the highschool we were going to visit the next day came and asisted with us to the presentation.

When the presentation was over, we were taken to two laboratories. We followed a dark path to get to the first laboratory, which I found extremly interestring. Here, we viewed organelles under the microscope and saw different types of plankton and samples. Poza

The second laboratory instruments purpose was explained to us by another scientist.

After we finished learning about ocean sciences we sadly parted ways with the students from the Piri Rais highschool but also with the professors at the Istanbul University.

All in all, in my opinion, the Istanbul University represents one of the best higher education institutes, having well prepered staff.
