Viterbo provence

Poza

This year in February I participated in an Erasmus project, which gave me the opportunity to visit a part of Italy I hadn’t been to before: the province of Viterbo.

The province of Viterbo is located in the Lazio region, in central Italy. It is the northernmost province of Lazio and is bordered by the Tuscany and Umbria regions to the north and east, and by Italy’s capital, Rome, in the south. The capital city of the province is the similarly named Viterbo city.

Viterbo has a rich Etruscan history, being part of the area that was inhabited by the Etruscans. Many ruins still stand and are free to visit. The two cities I had the pleasure of visiting, Orte and Viterbo, have very beautiful architecture, with cobblestone streets and historical but well-preserved buildings, which I really liked.

Another thing that caught my eye about the province is that, in between the cities, Viterbo is very green, full of grass and trees. As it is winter, some trees were dried, and the cloudy day made everything look gray. However, I’m sure that in the summer and on a sunny day, the landscape is absolutely gorgeous. I truly enjoy nature, and seeing how it thrives in that place made me appreciate the province even more.

All in all, the Viterbo province is certainly interesting, with its extensive history and gorgeous scenery. There are lots of things to see and I surely plan on visiting it again one day, hopefully with more free time to admire it.
